Welcome to the cyberspace home of the Rotary Club of Fuquay-Varina!

Our club is a growing, active group of men and women who share a common quest for integrity and ethics in the workplace, and a passion for giving back to their community.

In the spirit of our international motto, “Service Above Self,” we strive to serve our community – both locally and globally – in as many ways as possible. Locally, we help with Meals on Wheels, roadside pickup, local food banks, and as volunteers for community events. Over the next two years, we will be looking for a project that addresses the problem of infant mortality in our state. Our international projects currently include an international water reclamation project and a GPS-tracking team that is locating and documenting thousands of orphaned and abused children in Panama. We also host a group of young traveling Russian musicians and dancers (range in age from 8-20) for over a week every February.

As with any civic group, we also do some fundraising – however, in our case the work supports both local and international activities. Our annual golf tournament raises between $15,000-20,000/year for educational projects and scholarships in our local community. In addition to this major fundraiser, we are planning several smaller fundraising activities to raise funds for Rotary Foundation programs (50% of which returns to the community in the form of matching grants for projects), polio eradication (our contribution towards matching the $355 million Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant that was given to RI for the global eradication of polio), and monies to support several international students who are studying conflict resolution at Duke and our Ambassadorial scholar who is in South Africa until January 2010.

As you can see, our club offers a wide range of activities, from local to international, and from community service to fund-raising service that members can pick from and play a vital part in.

Our weekly meetings are held at Golden Corral on Broad Street in Fuquay-Varina and include lunch and (usually) an invited speaker. Speakers come from every walk of life and organization in the state. Former speakers have included state agency directors, our Secretary of State, government officials, education professionals, inspirational business leaders, local business owners, directors of non-profit organizations, and fellow Rotarians who are working on special projects. We are always looking for interesting and dynamic speakers, and have even hosted musicians and a magician! If you would like to speak to our group, please email Dave Morris at ncwiring@aol.com.

The 2009-2010 year will be a year of growth and renewal for our club. We are always looking for members of the community who would like to contribute to our mission and we look forward to meeting you and finding a way to merge your talents with one of the various projects or activities that we are planning.

Please explore our website in detail. It contains information about our club meetings and the many ways that we contribute to our community. It also includes a good deal of information about Rotary International and the basic principles that guide our members in their civic work.

Feel free to email me with any questions about Rotary International, the Rotary Club of  Fuquay-Varina, or any information you see on the website. We hope to see you at our next meeting, and thank you for taking the time to explore our corner of the world!

Yours in Rotary service,
